A Look Inside the Nike Sports Research Lab

Amid the intermittent rain and ducks darting around the tree-lined Nike campus in Beaverton, Ore., sits the Mia Hamm Building. Inside, the ground floor houses the 30-year-old Nike Sports Research Lab (NSRL), 16,000 square feet of secrecy hidden behind huge, colorful double doors.

Through those doors and past the slew of inspirational quotes on the wall, you'll find more than 25 pieces of state-of-the-art equipment that help the 20 scientists who work at NSRL enhance the performance of both athletes and Nike products through rigorous testing.

Nike doesn't allow too many folks behind the veiled doors, but on a recent trip to Beaverton, I was able to get a tour?a limited look by most standards, but generous by Nike's.
